Physical Activity
To achieve the Active School Flag, our school has introduced a variety of fun and inclusive ways to keep our pupils moving throughout the day. From the playground to the classroom, here is how we are staying active:
As part of our ASF journey, our school took part in the Croke Park Movement Break initiative. For four weeks, every class committed to a daily movement break by following the specialised videos provided on the Active School Flag website. These high-energy videos allowed pupils to practice fundamental movement skills while enjoying a fun "stadium-style" atmosphere right in their classrooms!
Our senior pupils from 5th and 6th Class lead the way as Playground Buddies. Once a week, they dedicate their lunch break to the Junior yard, where they organise and play games with the younger children. This ensures that break times are inclusive, energetic, and—most importantly—fun for everyone.
This year, we have scaled up our ambitions with the new 'Skip Around the World' initiative! For four weeks, every class from Junior Infants to 6th Class has been skipping across the globe.
The Goal: In this exciting global challenge, each skip counts as a kilometre. Classes selected international destinations and used their daily skipping sessions to track their progress across continents.
The Result: The enthusiasm has been incredible! Our pupils have been tracking their totals daily, with many classes successfully "visiting" multiple countries and even making the long skip back home to Ireland.
